FAQ

Common questions

Will image quality drop?

Usually yes. Lower quality and smaller dimensions reduce file size but can soften details. JPEG and WebP use lossy compression, so there is always a trade-off between size and sharpness — nudge the quality down gradually and stop when the image still looks good.

Does the image leave my device?

No. Processing happens entirely in the browser, so your photo is never uploaded to a server. That keeps private images — screenshots, documents, personal photos — on your own device.

Which format compresses best?

For photographs, JPEG and WebP compress far smaller than PNG. Use PNG only when you need sharp text or transparency. WebP usually gives the smallest file for the web.

How small should a web image be?

For most web pages, aiming under 200 KB keeps pages fast without visible quality loss. Large hero images can be a little bigger; thumbnails much smaller.
